Tamara A. Beyer DVM

College of Veterinary Medicine: University of Wisconsin 1990

Dr. Beyer is a Racine native and 1990 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. After working in Milwaukee for 6 1/2 years, Dr. Beyer and her husband Jeff purchased Beechwood Veterinary Clinic in January 1997. Over the years, the clinic has grown from the original three employees to our current size. Dr. Beyer has a special interest in dermatology, has published articles in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, taught a class in Business Practices at the Veterinary School and also has done a radio show for a local station. She and Jeff have two sons and two dogs. In her spare time, Dr. Beyer can be found driving the Beyer Bus to sporting events, crocheting while cheering on the Badgers and Packers, searching for ideas on Pinterest and trying (in vain) to get caught up on her scrapbooking.

Why did you choose to become a veterinarian?

From a very young age I was an animal lover. I had a variety of pocket pets and we always had family dogs. When I was 10 years old, my pet rabbit became very sick and I didn’t know why. Before I realized how serious it was, she had passed away. This was such a traumatic experience for me, it sparked a passion for veterinary medicine. I never wanted myself or anyone else to lose a pet without knowing why.

What is your goal walking into every patient visit?

I strive to create a bond with every pet I meet. I want them to love coming to Beechwood and to be excited each time they come back. Coming to the veterinarian can be a very stressful thing for pets so I work really hard to make sure they feel more comfortable with each visit. For each owner, I place a focus on building confidence through education so they can feel good about the decisions they are making for their loved ones.

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that you live by?

Progress over perfection.

Who make sup your family (pets and/or people)?

My husband and I have two awesome kids, Lucas and Arvella. Our kids before kids include two Pointers, Bruce and Zoe, and a handsome tuxedo cat, Simon.

Kayla

Hello! My name is Kayla! I have been in love with animals since day one! As a kid, I was always bringing anything home from crows to snakes to chipmunks to bugs! My parents didn’t always love what I brought home, but they always supported my passion.
I always knew my obsession with animals would lead me to my current career. Starting shortly after I moved to Wisconsin from Minnesota, I was introduced to the idea of fostering by a neighbor and became a foster mom myself! Once I was of working age, I was employed at the humane society that I was already volunteering and fostering through in 2003. This started my nursing experience and led me to the emergency field, which I remained in for a little over 7 years. Although I very much enjoyed it, I decided to try day practice for a change of pace.
I have been with Beechwood since 2013 and discovered an excitement within me for educating clients on anything from behavior to nutrition. I never expected to form the tight relationships I have with our clients. I love the mutual trust and the open door we have created for communication allowing for a beautiful partnership to keep all the fur babies happy and healthy!
When I am not at work, my life still 100% revolves around animals. Whether I am helping a client with their pets at home, catching a stray, or trucking my fur babies to classes, it always involves some sort of animal! My husband and I of course have our own pack of dogs and cats. What can I say, I know what I love!
Here at Beechwood, not only do we offer up to date technology, but more importantly, things you can not buy like a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a compassionate heart! We can’t wait to meet your fur babies and welcome them to our Beechwood family!

Jennifer

My name is Jennifer, but everyone calls me Jen. Have been in the veterinary profession since 1993 and at Beechwood Vet Clinic since 1999. I have been a credentialed veterinary technician since 2007. My special interest includes patient weight management, behavioral issues and general troubleshooting. I always find my daily interactions and conversations with clients to be most enjoyable! Outside of the clinic, I spend my time competing in AKC conformation shows, obedience trials and retriever hunt tests. As a licensed AKC hunt test judge, I give back to the sport I love b volunteering my time to judge at the junior and senior levels. My husband Ryan and I also raise Labrador Retrievers(we currently own 5) whom we hunt waterfowl and upland birds with.

Tracey

Hi, my name is Tracey. I started at Beechwood in 2004 as a front desk receptionist. I have three dogs, four birds, a turtle, fish and a frog. My hobbies are writing, art and photography. I am currently back in school for a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in photography. I love working on computers and web design. My life has revolved around animals from the moment I could remember. From family pets, to working on a horse farm, a private zoo, animals have been the center of my world. I have a background in rescue work, temperament testing, horse care and training. I love the ability to be able to help animals in need, as my background shows. I may not always remember a client's name, but I often will remember the name of their pets.

Being a receptionist is a new career for me. I like animals but have never had the opportunity growing up to have one. Maybe some day I will find the perfect pet to bring home. My work background includes being an Activity Director at a nursing home for the mentally ill, Preschool teacher and working retail.
I’ve been married for 26 years to my husband Pete. We have 3 children; Nick, Katie and Amanda. We love to travel, cook, golf and garden.
We love pets – Thanks for being part of our family!

Jennifer

Hello, my name is Jennifer. I have been in the veterinary field since 2017 after graduating from Gateway Technical College and obtaining my certification as a veterinary nurse. My interest in animal care began at a very young age. I have fostered and bottle fed several litters of kittens over the years. I have also volunteered with several organizations where I was able to work with large exotic animals such as wolves and big cats. I learned about there behavior and was then able to educate the public. It was this experience that directed me toward the medical aspect of caring for animals.
I have been at Beechwood since September of 2017. Since starting my interest include surgery, animal husbandry, pain management, and geriatric care. I choose to work here because of the light atmospheric work environment, the love and care of the staff towards their patients, and the high quality of patient care provided. I too strive to provide the best patient care by always being the patient’s advocate and to treat every patient like they are a member of the family.
When I am not at work, I spend most of my time in the outdoors. I enjoy kayaking the lakes and rivers of Wisconsin, camping, photography and hiking. I love travelling all around the world and enjoy marking National Parks off my bucket list. My constant traveling companion is my dog Hayden who is always willing to go anywhere and hike any trail no matter how long. I also enjoy taking her to agility class where she can run off some of her energy. Besides my dog, I have 3 cats Jasper, Storm and Theodore. When I am not outdoors, I enjoy spending my time with them.

Carly

Hi, my name is Carly! I’m new here at Beechwood as I just started November of 2017. I have been working in the veterinary field since I was 17 years old but have always loved working with animals. My favorite part of my job would be building relationships with all the clients/patients we see! In my spare time, I love baking, enjoying the outdoors and working my pitbull named Blu in agility!

Time spent with pets is never wasted

so spend some with yours.
